Steve Fredlund asks,

Are you making decisions by default? Most leaders do. Listen as Steve explains how we just go along with the easiest path not really knowing why.
15 years ago Steve began a quest to become a happier leader. While that journey has been up, down, and sideways, he has learned some of the major forces behind leader unhappiness.
These insights are bringing clarity and hope to many leaders he had the fortune of sharing with because the good news is that there is a cure to our unhappiness; it is not too late to reverse the effects of years contributing to our growing unhappiness.
Steve Fredlund spent 25 years in Fortune 500 companies including Medtronic, 3M, Thrivent Financial, and Allianz; he has an MBA and is a fellow of the society of actuaries. Steve is a 2 Time TEDx speaker and East African Humanitarian.

Mike Ward, a Facilities Manager at a school district in Ohio says, "There are a few options on how to handle Face-to-Face meeting situations."
Use surveys to set up the meetings prior to going into the particulars.
Take a direct services staff member with you; ie. a plumber, electrician, custodian, etc.
Show the super or principal what you know is happening from surveys you have done, maybe even how to use the system fully.
Do a building walk, be sure that a service staff member is with you.
Mike says these will change depending on the age of the buildings and can range up to an hour or more. Principals know what they want to show you.
Always ask what they feel needs room for improvements. Some of the challenges is knowing your principals as they change, depending on how large the district is.
Mike says, "You're never done with customer service."
"Remember to keep your journey healthy, positive, and be proactive."

Traditional "Cold Call" is dead, the time when you stopped and dropped off a business card.
The "Warm Call" is where you use social media to learn all you can and navigate the waters of the call before making that first contact. Remember, you have 2.3 seconds to make that first impression!
Don't be afraid of IT issues, embrace them and become proficient.
Learn from the field experience of the seasoned pro, but also from the young IT-savvy, both can help each other.

"People & Communication is top of the list," says Mike Ward, a Facilities Manager at a school district in Central Ohio.
"I think we have gotten too comfortable with an email or text," Mike says.

Kenny Seybold is the Director of Custodial Operations at Flagler County schools in Palm Coast, FL.
Kenny tells us in this episode that COMMUNICATION is the key to all facility maintenance issues. It is with everyone, from the Superintendent, Principal, Asst. Principal to the frontline custodian, it is the most important issue on every level.
Kenny and Flagler use a program called Essential Assets for work orders and Event Manager.
From the Home Show with over 30,000 people to the 1,500 person auditorium, a middle schools dance, to the wrestling matches, all of these have to be coordinated with facilities management because come Monday morning, the students will be utilizing all of these same areas for learning.
"If you are new to Facility Maintenance, you need to have communicational skills above all," says Kenny.
